That was Phoenix in 2004, first pick in the draft, straight out of Storrs. She never wore another jersey. Twenty seasons, one franchise, three titles in Phoenix. In a league where movement is the norm and dynasties get built and dismantled in three-year cycles, one player staying put for two decades is its own kind of record, and it is the reason a piece like this can even exist. You need years of shared bus rides and shootarounds to have untold stories worth telling.
What came out alongside it is the companion beat: Taurasi herself walking through the shot that made her the first player in WNBA history to reach 10,000 points. The all-time scoring record was hers, and then she kept extending it, which is the part people forget. She did not just pass everybody. She lapped the number and kept shooting.
