The names matter for the board because any of those players who are also on tonight's rosters are doing double duty this week, and the league does not exactly build in rest on their behalf. Worth noting before you size up any total involving those teams.

Two of the hottest individual performers in the league, both in action this afternoon and evening. That is not nothing.

The other cultural thread running through the overnight is the league's 30th season tribute to the 1996 U.S. Olympic team, the group that helped build the foundation these players are standing on. checked the almanac on this one: that Atlanta squad went undefeated and won gold, and the names on it, Sheryl Swoopes, Lisa Leslie, Dawn Staley, are the direct line to everything the WNBA is right now. one beat of wonder, then right back to it.

Sophie Cunningham is generating the feature coverage this week, and the piece out of Indianapolis frames her as a dividing line more than a player, which is actually the more interesting read. She has carved out a real role for the Fever without a starting spot and without changing who she is. Whether you love or hate the style, she is a factor in Indiana's rotation tonight.

The All-Star scheduling noise, the mid-week roster fatigue, and the thin line movement I have in front of me this morning are not adding up to a clean edge anywhere.
