Wednesday is my favorite day of the college football week and the worst day to bet it. The information is all in, the market has not fully digested it, and the honest answer on CFB best bets today is that nothing on my board has cleared a real number. So this is the radar, not the register.

Here is what has my attention before anything earns a stamp.

What I'm watching on the CFB board this week

  1. Indiana hosting Northwestern, Friday night. Word came down that a judge granted defensive linemen Stephen Daley and Kellan Wyatt a preliminary injunction against the NCAA, and both are eligible again. Two returning bodies on a defensive front is not a headline that moves a market the way a quarterback does, and that lag is exactly where I live. What turns it into a play: my number on the Indiana front with both men back landing meaningfully clear of where the game gets priced once I run it Thursday morning.
  1. Clemson at California, Friday, 10:30 PM ET. The Tigers go three time zones west for the last kickoff of the night. For Cal this is a normal evening. For a road team it is a long, strange day. Late-window games in soft corners of the calendar are where college football hides its pricing errors. What turns it into a play: a total or a side that treats this like a neutral-site midday game.
  1. Texas at Tennessee, Saturday noon ET. Neyland at noon is its own weather system. Big spot, biggest television window of the morning, and the least likely of this group to offer me anything, because everybody in America will have an opinion and a number on it by Friday. I watch it because I love it. That is a different thing than betting it.
  1. Notre Dame at Purdue, Saturday 2:00 PM ET. The Irish are getting painted into playoff seed projections all over the place this week, and reputation is the most expensive thing on a college board. Road trip against an in-state opponent that would love to ruin an autumn. What turns it into a play: a number that prices Purdue like a scrimmage rather than a football team.

The one I lean on most

Indiana. A lean, not a play, and I want that word doing work. Eligibility rulings are the slowest news in this sport to get properly priced, because the market has to decide how much two defensive linemen are worth and nobody agrees. My number says more than zero. If the game comes back to me Thursday still reflecting a thinner Hoosier front, that is a tell and I will say so out loud.

checked the almanac: Clemson has seven playoff appearances, and ESPN just put three of their games in the all-time CFP top ten. Fair. The Renfrow catch with one second on the clock in January 2017 still does not look real on replay.

What I'm watching next: Thursday morning, when I re-run Indiana with the full front seven and see whether the gap holds. If it does not, I will tell you that too. Nothing deleted, nothing cherry-picked.
