Nothing has cleared for NFL best bets today, and if you've been reading me for more than a week, you know Saturday of a football weekend is exactly when I expect that. The injury reports are still breathing. The inactives are two days out on the Monday night game. This column is the radar, not the trigger.

Also, the league quietly changed what stadiums can put on the video boards during field goals and extra points, apparently after a former analytics coach went viral pointing out the obvious. Somewhere a scoreboard operator is grieving. I'm mostly just delighted that in 2026 we are still finding new ways to mess with a kicker's eyeline.

NFL best bets today: the eyeing list

  1. Puka Nacua, questionable for Monday night. Second straight practice missed with a groin. Giants at Rams is the last game of the weekend, which means I get two more information cycles than I get on anything at one o'clock. Soft tissue in a receiver is the kind of thing that shows up as "active" and then as eleven snaps. What turns it into a play: a clear Sunday practice signal, one way or the other. Ambiguity is not an edge, it's just anxiety with a spreadsheet.
  1. Steelers at Patriots, minus Michael Pittman Jr. He got downgraded to out with a foot injury, and the reporting frames him as another starter off the list, not the first. A passing game losing its target hierarchy in a road spot in Foxborough is a real mechanism, not a narrative. What turns it into a play: the rest of the Pittsburgh receiver room confirming out or limited by Sunday morning.
  1. Packers at Jets, one first-rounder lighter. Word came down that rookie receiver Omar Cooper Jr., one of three Jets first-round picks, went on IR with a sprained ankle. That's a stretch of Sundays, not a week. Thin rooms get exposed against real defenses. What turns it into a play: how New York distributes those snaps, because a depth chart is a tell.
  1. The Falcons' quarterback curiosity. There's a prediction floating that Atlanta finds a fascinating role for QB4 Jack Strand against Carolina. Note the word prediction. That's an analyst's read, not a coach's plan, and I don't bet on packages I haven't seen snap one of. What turns it into a play: an actual usage confirmation, which I do not have.

The one I lean on most

The Rams and Giants, and specifically Nacua's status. Not because I have a side yet. Because it's the one spot where the market has to guess for 48 more hours and I don't. A questionable tag on a volume receiver is where the gap between the posted number and the honest number tends to live, and I'll mind that gap like it owes me money once I see Sunday's report.

That's a lean. Not a play. Nothing on my board cleared this morning, and I'd rather post a clean zero than manufacture a fourth pick for the sake of a fourth pick. Small edges over and over, no heroics. Keep it entertainment, keep it 21+ where legal, and know that variance doesn't care how good your read was.

What I'm watching next: the Sunday practice report out of Los Angeles and the Pittsburgh inactives.

You know where to find me. BOL.
