Training camp week is the NFL calendar's most honest hour. No one is protecting anything yet. Depth charts are real, injury lists are fresh, and the front offices that built something are telling you exactly what they built. Today the wire was busy and the board was quiet. Nothing cleared my number this morning. That is fine. The work is in knowing what to watch.
What's on My Radar
- Miami Dolphins, win total and defense props. The Dolphins just locked up linebacker Jordyn Brooks on a three-year, $51.3 million extension with $35 million guaranteed. Brooks led the NFL in tackles in 2021 and again in 2025, earned First-Team All-Pro and a Pro Bowl nod last year, and is now cemented as the anchor of that defense. That is the third core-player extension Miami has handed out in recent weeks, following center Aaron Brewer and running back De'Von Achane. A franchise that is locking down its identity before camp opens is a franchise that knows what it is. That kind of organizational clarity shows up in results. I want to see where the win total sits and whether the team defense props have priced in a full season of Brooks at this level. The wrinkle: rookie receiver Chris Bell (torn ACL, Louisville) went straight to the active/NFI list, which is expected but worth noting for any depth-chart-sensitive receiving props down the road.
- Carolina Panthers, early-season team totals and opposing offenses. The Panthers placed starting cornerback Jaycee Horn and starting right tackle Taylor Moton on reserve/NFI before a snap was taken. Moton is dealing with blood clots and is likely to miss the start of the season. That is the kind of news that quietly reprices a defense. Horn should be back sooner, but losing your blindside anchor in the run game for any stretch is a real problem. I am not touching anything without confirmed depth and a number, but Carolina's opponents early in the year just became a more interesting conversation.
- New York Giants, Cam Skattebo usage props. John Harbaugh is already chirping at his running back for flubbing a backflip on a surgically repaired ankle. The fact that Skattebo is out here attempting backflips at camp is either the best sign in the world (healthy, loose, confident) or the kind of thing that makes you grip the armrest. The coach's reaction, "at least stick it," tells me Harbaugh is comfortable enough to joke. I want to know what the touch projections look like before I get interested in anything here.
- Arizona Cardinals, quarterback market and futures. Jacoby Brissett's contract situation is still unresolved as the Cardinals report to camp. He is his own agent, they agree he is due a raise, but no number yet. A starting quarterback in genuine contract limbo heading into camp is a tell for how a front office values its own stability. I am watching the Cardinals' futures price and whether that uncertainty gets baked in anywhere useful.
- Pittsburgh Steelers, Aaron Rodgers and the Aaron Donald wildcard. The 32-team training camp breakdown out of the wire notes that Aaron Donald's decision on whether to play is not close. That is a significant qualifier on any Steelers defensive line projection. Rodgers is reporting after some family time, which is genuinely good to hear and wholly irrelevant to the number. But a defense built around an all-time talent who may or may not show up is one I am not projecting until Donald either signs or steps away for good.
The One I Lean On Most
Miami is the storyline I keep coming back to. Three extensions. An All-Pro linebacker locked in. A clear offensive identity around Achane. The front office is not hedging; it is committing. That is not a lean on a specific number because I do not have the number in front of me yet. But when the win total posts and the defensive props surface, Miami is the first place I am doing real work. The organizational signal is loud.
Nothing has cleared my number today. The board needs the numbers and the numbers need camp to develop. That is the honest read.
You know where to find me when it moves.
