Tuesday in August, four games, and the loudest thing to cross my desk is a party being thrown eleven months from now. That is a slow news day. But the board doesn't care about news days, so here's what I'm eyeing before anything actually clears.

Quick housekeeping first: the Valkyries are hosting the 2027 All-Star Game in San Francisco, skills challenge and 3-point shootout included. A franchise that tipped off in 2025 gets the league's showcase weekend two years later. That's a market vote of confidence in a fan base, not a betting angle, and I'm not going to pretend otherwise.

WNBA best bets today: what's actually on my radar

  1. Liberty at Sky, 9:00 PM ET. New York's moneyline is offered at -180 and my fair sits at -164. That's a real gap, and it's still under a point of EV once you're paying the vig. What turns it into a play: the number drifting toward -170 or a Chicago lineup note that widens my fair rather than narrows it. Right now it's a lean and I'm labeling it as one.
  2. Sparks at Connecticut, 7:00 PM ET. LA at -120 against my -111 fair. That is 0.134% EV, which is not an edge, that is a rounding error wearing an edge's jacket. What turns it: -115 or better, full stop.
  3. Fever at Toronto, 7:00 PM ET. Nothing on my sheet for this one, and I'd rather say that plainly than manufacture a case. Expansion-market home crowds are the kind of thing books price generously in one direction and stubbornly in the other. I want to see the number before I want to see the game.
  4. Dream at Aces, 10:00 PM ET. Late window, Vegas at home, and no number of mine cleared. Watching only.
  5. Lynx at Valkyries, Wednesday 10:10 PM ET. Tomorrow's late one in San Francisco, one night after the All-Star announcement. Emotion doesn't shoot free throws, but a full building in a nine-point game does move a rotation. I'll have a number by then.

The one I lean on

Liberty moneyline. It is the only line on my sheet where my number and the offered price are having an actual disagreement instead of a polite nod. Under a point of EV is not a hammer, it's a whisper, and whispers are how the good months get built: small edges over and over, no heroics. The Sparks side I'm leaving alone entirely. At 0.134%, the math says pass and doesn't say it quietly.

checked the almanac: the league's first All-Star Game was played at Madison Square Garden in 1999. twenty-eight years later it lands in a building that didn't have a team until 2025. that's growth you can see from space.

What I'm watching next: the Liberty price. If it sags toward -170 before 9:00, my whisper gets loud enough to hear. If it climbs, I'm out and I'll say so.
