Georgia's College Football Playoff record is now tied with Alabama's for the best winning percentage among programs with at least three playoff appearances. That is the whole headline, and it is a bigger sentence than it looks, because the other name in that tie is the one Kirby Smart spent eight years working for.
Think about where this program was standing when the playoff started. Georgia was the blue blood that everybody respected and nobody feared in January. The last national title in Athens before this run came in 1980, with Herschel Walker in the backfield, and for four decades the Bulldogs were the answer to a trivia question about near misses.
