Lane Kiffin said it into a microphone Monday: LSU is pursuing former NFL rookies, and the players already in his locker room have told him they are good with it. That second half is the actual LSU Tigers news here. The pursuit is a personnel decision. The endorsement is a culture decision, and Kiffin said the buy-in is what made him feel better about the whole thing.
Understand what he was really asking. A roster is a fixed pie. Every veteran body brought in from the outside is a rep, a rotation spot, a start that somebody who signed up last year and did the winter work does not get. Coaches almost never take that question to the room. They announce it and let the room adjust. Kiffin went the other way, and by his own telling the answer came back yes.
The context is that this is Kiffin's first fall running LSU after six seasons at Ole Miss, where he built rosters out of transfers and other people's overlooked pieces about as aggressively as anybody in the sport. Baton Rouge is a different weight class of expectation. LSU does not hire a coach to finish third in its own division. So the aggressive roster math is not a surprise. The willingness to check with the players before doing it is a small, genuinely interesting departure from how he has operated before.

What comes next is the part nobody can poll. Buy-in is easy while everyone is still theoretically starting.
I will be watching the LSU snap distribution once these additions actually arrive, and whether the players who said yes in August are still saying it when the reps get counted.
