That is the part worth sitting with. Lucas Spence's three home runs did not just win a baseball game for Houston, they put him alongside Joshua Baez and Seby Zavala as the only players ever to have every one of their first three big league homers land in the same night. Not the first three in a week. Not in a month. In one game. A player walked into a ballpark with zero career home runs and walked out with a career total that most guys need half a season to reach.

Three-homer games are rare on their own. They usually belong to hitters who already have a reputation, the kind of night where the broadcast cuts to a highlight package because there is plenty of tape to pull. There was no tape to pull here. The archive on this guy started and finished in the same three at-bats.

What it did for Houston matters too, because the calendar is nearly out. The three home runs kept the Astros tied atop the AL West with the regular season down to its last handful of games, and in this postseason format that distinction is not cosmetic.
