The real baseball news is happening in front offices right now, deals moving through medical review, rotation arms getting shopped, and the rosters you handicapped on Monday morning may not be the rosters that take the field tonight. That context shapes everything I'm looking at on this slate.

What's Moving the Board Before First Pitch

The Doval deal is confirmed: Pittsburgh acquires the right-handed reliever from the Yankees for two prospects. The reporting says it passed medical. That is a real, meaningful upgrade to a Pirates bullpen that has been the drag on a team trying to end an 11-year postseason drought. Worth filing.

On the other end of the wire, Seattle placed Luke Raley on the 10-day IL with a left forearm strain. Thin margins in that outfield going forward.

And the Mariners are apparently open for business on George Kirby, Emerson Hancock, AND Luis Castillo. That is not a rumor, that is a fire sale at the rotation window. Whatever Minnesota is paying for a Kirby rental, the Twins' rotation picture could look very different by Sunday's 4:11 PM game.
