Tuesday of Week 3, and the wire is doing more damage to my sheet than any defense did last week. Four notes inside two hours, nearly all of them quarterbacks or starters, and the NFL betting news today rearranged my numbers before I got through the first cup.

The biggest thing on my screen is an edge I am not touching. That's the honest version.

What I'm eyeing in NFL Week 3

  1. Titans at Giants, Giants moneyline. My board has it at -155 against a fair price of -202, better than ten points of edge, the fattest number I've posted this week. Then the reporting out of New Jersey said Jaxson Dart's knee is more severe than first believed and he could miss the rest of the season. That fair number was built with him in it. A double-digit edge sitting on a stale input isn't an edge, it's a typo with a price tag. What turns it into a play: a fair number rebuilt around whoever actually takes the snaps, with daylight still left over.
  1. Falcons at Packers, Thursday, 8:15 ET. Atlanta put A.J. Terrell on IR with a groin injury. Green Bay loses right tackle Zach Bako-Bewele for 8 to 10 months to knee surgery, and the reporting calls him the best lineman on the roster. Short week, almost no practice reps, both teams subtracting from the two jobs that decide games: edge protection and outside coverage. I have no posted number here, so there is nothing to play. What turns it: a total that hasn't accounted for a backup tackle on four days.
  1. Eagles at Bears, Bears moneyline. Plus 152 on my board against a fair of plus 142, about four points of edge. Then word came down that Tyson Bagent is in the concussion protocol and the quarterback room is unsettled. A dog price you love a lot less when you don't know who is under center. What turns it: clarity at quarterback that doesn't eat the whole edge.
  1. Rams at Broncos, Rams -2.5. Offered -108, my fair -116. The Rams' coach said he is hopeful on Puka Nacua and does not know his game status. Most of that edge is riding on one participation line. What turns it: Nacua active.
  1. Bengals at Steelers. Cincinnati at -185 with my fair at -168. The math says pass. Nothing deleted, nothing cherry-picked. I post the ones I don't like too.

Giants ML-155-202+10.1%
Vikings ML-120-135+5.4%

The one I lean on

Vikings at Buccaneers. Moneyline -120 against a fair -135, and the -1.5 at -105 against -114. It is not the biggest number on the page. It is the quietest one. No quarterback fog, no participation report holding it hostage, nothing in front of me that says my input is out of date. Small edges over and over, no heroics. That's the whole job.

A lean, not a play. It stays a lean until the final designations come out and my number survives them.

checked the almanac: kurt warner started 1999 as somebody's backup and finished it as the league mvp with a super bowl ring. the backup file cuts both ways, which is exactly why i want to see who's taking snaps in new york and chicago before i price anything.

Next thing I'm watching: the first real practice report of the week out of New Jersey and Chicago, plus whether Green Bay names a right tackle before Thursday night. Keep it entertainment, keep it inside what a bad night can cost you, 21+ where legal.
