The WNBA handed me a full Wednesday: a draft show, a finished game in Minnesota, a hot hand on a five-game run, a racism incident that deserves more than a line item, and one live game still on the clock tonight in Indianapolis. The board is quiet. Nothing has cleared my number. But this is the part of the job I actually like: the watching, the tracking, the building of a case before you commit to a single dollar.
Let me tell you what I'm eyeing.
WNBA Picks Today: The Radar
- Golden State Valkyries @ Indiana Fever (Wed, Jul 15, 8:10 PM ET). This is the one game on the schedule tonight and the one I'm watching most closely. Caitlin Clark just got named the No. 2 fan-vote-getter for the All-Star Game, she's going to Team Spoon, and Paige Bueckers is the No. 1 overall pick to Team Coop. That narrative juice is real. What I need before this turns into anything: Indiana's full injury report, Golden State's travel and rest situation coming in, and a line that reflects the home edge without overpricing the Clark story. The market can fall in love with a name. That's a tell worth watching.
- Kayla McBride and the Minnesota Lynx as a futures conversation. The Lynx just beat the Sparks 96-87, their fourth straight win, and McBride dropped 24 points on her fifth consecutive 20-point game. Courtney Williams added 19. That is not noise, that is a team running hot. I don't have a futures price in front of me right now, but if the Lynx's number hasn't moved off that streak, that's the first thing I check Thursday morning. Five straight 20-point games from your second or third option is a momentum tell that futures books are sometimes slow to catch.
- New York Liberty @ Dallas Wings (Thu, Jul 16, 9:00 PM ET). Bueckers is the face of that franchise and she's All-Star royalty right now. The market will price the Wings with some buzz attached. My question is whether Dallas's home number gets inflated by All-Star week energy heading into a game against a Liberty team that is legitimately good. That's exactly the kind of spot where chalk gets overpriced. Not saying fade Dallas, saying mind the gap like it owes you money when the line drops.
- Connecticut Sun @ Phoenix Mercury (Fri, Jul 17, 10:00 PM ET). Late Friday night, thin market, west-coast tip time. The Sun have been one of the more consistent teams in the league this season and a late road game against Phoenix is the kind of quiet spot that can carry real value if the line settles soft. Nothing to act on yet. Just on the list.
- The Las Vegas Aces and the racism item. The WNBA and the Aces put out a statement today condemning racist behavior directed at Chelsea and their players. I am not going to attach a betting frame to that. What I will say is that a team dealing with that kind of ugliness deserves space, and I'll be watching how they respond on the court when they're next up. The Aces are not on this week's schedule I have in front of me, but they are on my mind.
The One I Lean On Most
The Valkyries-Fever game tonight is the lean, not a play. Home team, marquee player, All-Star draft day energy in the building. If Indiana is healthy and the line hasn't already run past a number that makes sense, there is something there. But I don't have the injury report confirmed and I don't have a line I trust yet. That's the honest answer. Nothing clears until it clears.
Play within your means, only with what you'd spend on a good seat at the game. If the game stops being fun, step away and call 1-800-GAMBLER.
