The Los Angeles Dodgers injury news broke Tuesday and the board answered by moving away from them. Will Smith, Dalton Rushing and Justin Wrobleski all came off the injured list, and as of this morning the Dodgers sit at -233 in the St. Louis finale at 10:11 pm ET after opening -300. Read that twice.

The roster part is straightforward and genuinely good for Los Angeles. Smith is the starting catcher and the everyday bat behind the plate, not a depth piece. Rushing gives them a real backup again instead of a hole. Wrobleski is another arm for a bullpen that has to survive a full month of September baseball. For a club managing innings into October, that is three problems solved in one afternoon.

And the price got worse anyway.

Sixty-seven cents off the favorite is not a rounding error, and the total ticking from 7.5 up to 8 with the over side getting cheaper says the money is pricing runs, not defense. When good health news lands and the number moves the wrong direction, the market is telling you the headline was never the driver. Usually that is the pitching matchup or a usage plan, and I don't have the probables in front of me yet, so I'm not going to dress up a guess as a read.

Where it gets mildly interesting: -233 de-vigs to about 70 percent, and the prediction venues are sitting at 71 and 69. That is consensus, not disagreement. The Cardinals at +213 imply roughly 32 percent against one venue showing 34. That is a thin, one-source sliver, the kind of edge that only pays if you catch a hundred of them and never chase the ninety-nine that don't clear. Nothing here is jumping off the page at me.

What kills the angle: if the Dodgers name a top-of-rotation arm and the number snaps back toward -260, the drift was information I didn't have and the Cardinals price disappears with it.

I'm watching two things into the evening. Whether Smith actually catches or gets eased in as the DH, and whether -233 holds or keeps bleeding toward -200. If it keeps sliding after the lineup card posts, the market knows something about the arms that the IL news never touched. Bet what you'd shrug off, 21+ where legal.
