September opened with a headline that has nothing to do with tonight's run line: after 23 years, Arte Moreno has agreed to sell controlling interest in the Angels to Stan Kroenke. Twenty-three years is a long time to own a baseball team. It is also, for purposes of MLB best bets today, worth exactly zero cents on the Yankees-Angels number, and I will get to that at the bottom of the list because the honest pass is part of the job.
What actually has my attention this morning is quieter and more useful. Four totals and moneylines on my card came out cleaner than the offered prices, and three of them are unders. First of September, arms are tired, and the market has not fully caught up. That's a tell.
What I'm eyeing on today's MLB board
- Marlins at Royals, under 9.5 (offered +103, my fair -117). The biggest gap on my sheet, right around nine and a half points of edge. Plus money on a number my model wants juiced. What turns it into a play: confirmed starters that match what I have, and no wind blowing out at the K.
- Brewers at Cubs, under 10 (offered +101, my fair -118). Wrigley in September is a coin flip with the flags, which is exactly why I want the number to do the work instead of the vibes. What turns it into a play: an in-blowing forecast at first pitch. If it turns around, I want nothing to do with it.
- Blue Jays at Guardians, Toronto ML (offered +163, my fair +142). A road dog priced like a lesser team than my numbers say Toronto is. Twenty-one cents of daylight. What turns it into a play: Cleveland's bullpen usage from last night, because a fresh Guardians pen closes that gap fast.
- Orioles at Rockies, under 11 (offered +101, my fair -111). Yes, Coors. Yes, an under. Eleven is already a fat number and my model still says it's a touch fat. What turns it into a play: a cool evening and no jetstream to right. Coors weather is the whole bet; I do not have the first-pitch conditions yet, so it stays on the radar.
- Giants at Pirates, San Francisco ML (offered +147, my fair +138). Small, real, unglamorous. Nine cents. This is the kind of number that pays the light bill, not the one you tell stories about.

The one I lean on
The Marlins-Royals under. Not a play, a lean, because I want confirmed starters first. But plus money on a total my number prices at -117 is the widest gap I've got, and I'd rather bank small edges over and over than chase a hero number.
And Yankees at Angels? My fair is -179 against an offered -180. That is a rounding error wearing a costume. The math says pass, Kroenke or no Kroenke. Meanwhile the futures roundup that crossed today still reads Dodgers on top with Milwaukee climbing, which is why the Brewers moneyline at +116 barely clears my number: the market already knows.
What I'm watching next: first-pitch weather in Denver and at Wrigley. Those two unders live or die on air.
