Quiet Monday. The wire gave me a Bengals lineman release, a fantasy waiver column, and a note that Williamsport gets the Blue Jays and Cubs in 2027, which is lovely and worth exactly zero dollars tonight. So when I say MLB best bets today, I mean one number that actually has room and two that are pretending.
That is fine. Late August slates run like this. Ten games, most of them after 9:30 ET, half the rosters counting down to September call-ups. The board tells you what it tells you.

What I'm eyeing tonight
- Colorado at Washington, Over 8 (6:46 ET). The only spot on my sheet where my number and the offered number are standing in different rooms. Sixteen cents of distance on a total is not something August hands you often. What turns it into a play: the 8 holding through first pitch. If it ticks to 8.5, most of that edge walks out the door with it.
- Texas at the White Sox, Rangers moneyline (7:41 ET). Offered +120, my fair +118. That is two cents. Two cents is not an edge, it is agreement. What turns it into a play: the number climbing toward +130 without a lineup reason, which would mean the market moved and my number did not.
- Boston at Miami, Red Sox moneyline (6:41 ET). Offered -123 into a -117 fair. I am paying six cents for the privilege of being right. A tenth of a percent is a rounding error, and I do not chase rounding errors in the first game of a Monday. What turns it into a play: the price coming back under -117.
- Cubs at Arizona, 9:40 ET. Nothing on my board here, and I am not manufacturing one. I am watching it because the Cubs are the story of the week for a nicer reason than betting.
checked the almanac: the Little League Classic started in 2017 at Bowman Field, Cardinals and Pirates, big leaguers walking around Williamsport in the afternoon like anybody's uncle. cubs and blue jays get it in 2027. good for baseball.
The one I lean on
The Nationals total. A lean, not a play, because I want to see the 8 survive the afternoon and I want lineups. But that is the only place today where my number has real daylight on the offered price, and I will take small edges over and over before I take one loud guess. Mind the gap like it owes you money.
Everything else, the math says pass.
What I'm watching next: whether that Washington total moves off 8, and whether Texas drifts past +130 for no good reason.
