Tuesday is a full slate and the deadline chatter is getting loud. Fourteen games on the board tonight, names flying around the league, and my number hasn't found a clean edge yet. That's fine. This column is the process, not the payoff.

MLB Picks Today: The Spots on My Radar

  1. Chicago White Sox @ Texas Rangers (8:06 PM ET). The Rangers are hosting a White Sox squad that has been one of the softer opponents on any board this season. What I want to know before this becomes a play: who's actually toeing the rubber for Texas tonight and whether the bullpen is rested. The injury news out of the Rangers organization this morning is about prospect Brody Bumila, the 18-year-old 100-mph arm who just drew the Tommy John diagnosis on his left UCL. That's a long-term development hit, not a tonight problem. But it does remind you how thin the pitching pipeline is in Arlington, which sharpens my focus on what the major-league staff looks like going forward. If the Rangers send out a starter in a favorable rest spot against this White Sox lineup, the conversation gets interesting.
  1. Los Angeles Dodgers @ Philadelphia Phillies (6:41 PM ET). The deadline noise around the Dodgers and Tarik Skubal is real and it matters for futures, not necessarily for tonight. What I'm watching here is the total. Two good rotations, a park that doesn't play huge, and both bullpens have been stretched recently. The number would have to move toward a softer under for me to care, and right now I don't have enough to pull a trigger. Eyeing it.
  1. Baltimore Orioles @ Boston Red Sox (7:11 PM ET). The word around the league is that Boston's front office is deep in deadline conversations, which usually means roster uncertainty in the near term. A team with one eye on the trade wire and one eye on the lineup card can be a live fade spot, or it can rally. The tell here is the starting pitching matchup, which I'm tracking before first pitch. Nothing has cleared my number this morning.
  1. New York Mets @ Milwaukee Brewers (7:41 PM ET). The Brewers at home are a number I tend to respect in the middle of the week when New York is on the road leg of a trip. Not a play. A lean-adjacent conversation I want to revisit once I see the full injury context.

The One I Lean On Most

If I had to point at one spot that feels closest to clearing, it's the Rangers matchup. Home team, weak opponent, and a lineup that can do damage in a favorable rest situation. That's a lean, not a play, because I don't have the starter confirmed and the math hasn't fully settled. The Read, not a tip.

What I'm Watching Next

The trade deadline pipeline is moving fast. Mason Miller, Francisco Lindor, Kevin Gausman all surfacing as candidates according to reporting out of the league this morning. Any of those moves hit before Thursday and you've got a futures conversation worth having. I'll be at the desk.
