Myles Garrett went the whole game without a tackle in his Rams debut, called it "the worst version of myself that I've put out there," and pointed at his knee. That is the Los Angeles Rams injury news that matters more than the 27-7 final, because a pass rusher explaining a zero with a joint is a pricing problem for every Rams number the rest of September.

Start with what the board already told us. Our number opened Rams -3.5 with a 48.5 total for the trip to Australia. By the time the board went quiet, San Francisco was being laid at -19.5 and the total had fallen to 34.5. Lines do not travel 23 points because a team flew in late. They travel that far when one side stops functioning in real time, and the side that stopped functioning was the one whose new star edge could not get off the ground.

Here is the mechanism, and it is not complicated. Garrett is the single biggest reason anybody bumped the Rams defense up this summer. A healthy version of him bends protections, shortens drives, and buys back points on a spread. A knee-limited version does not, and the market has to decide which one it is pricing while the player himself has given us the honest answer: he was not right. Zero tackles is not a bad matchup. Zero tackles with a knee cited afterward is a tell.

So what I do with it is wait on it, and I want to be plain about that. There is no Rams number on my board yet for their next one, and I am not going to invent a lean to fill the space. The thing I am actually tracking is his practice participation when the week starts. Full work, and the market will treat this as one ugly Thursday on the other side of the planet. Limited or out, and Rams spreads plus his own sack props both need rewriting, and the props will be the slowest to catch up. That is usually where the soft number lives.

One more note from the same night: San Francisco lost De'Zhaun Stribling to an ankle injury and he did not return. Smaller stone, same pond.

What I am watching next: Garrett's first practice report. Everything else is noise until then. And keep this the size it should be, entertainment with variance, 21+ where legal.
