Sam Darnold is starting Sunday in Washington and the board moved like it. But the Seattle Seahawks injury news that should actually matter to anyone holding a ticket is the second half of that report: both starting safeties, Julian Love and Ty Okada, have been ruled out, and the number treated it like a rounding error.

That is the whole story in one sentence. Quarterback comes back, price explodes. Two starting deep defenders go down, price does not flinch.

Why the Seahawks line went from -3 to -7.5

Seattle opened -3 at -115 and sits at -7.5 -105. The moneyline opened -127 and now reads -326 de-vigged, with the prediction venues parked at 77 percent on both Kalshi and Polymarket. That is 4.5 points of movement, and it did not creep. It cleared 3 and it cleared 7 on the same trip, which is the two most expensive pieces of real estate on an NFL card.

Commanders spread+3.5 (-110)+7.5 (-105)

Total (Under)41.5 (-107)40 (-102)

The Darnold confirmation is the obvious engine. The rest is Washington's own report: right guard Sam Cosmi out with a concussion, tight end Chig Okonkwo out with a hamstring, linebacker Frankie Luvu out with a groin. Losing a starting guard and your move tight end in the same week is how an offense stops staying on schedule, and Luvu is the kind of player whose absence you feel on every early down. The money read that stack and piled on the champs.

What losing both starting safeties actually costs

Here is where I get off the bus. Love and Okada are the starters, both are out, and I do not have the depth chart replacements or their snap history in front of me, so I am not going to pretend I know exactly who is playing the deep third. What I do know is what a defense looks like when its two rostered communicators in the back end are in street clothes: blown coverages on play-action, more explosive plays allowed, and a lot more points than the profile suggests.

checked the almanac: this franchise built its entire modern identity on safety play, back when Earl Thomas and Kam Chancellor made the deep middle a bad neighborhood. Safeties matter in Seattle. They have always mattered in Seattle.

The total is the part I cannot square

The Under opened 41.5 at -107 and now sits at 40. The Over is still on 40.5 but the price drifted from -105 to +100. So the market moved the total down and cheapened the Over on a day when one side lost both starting safeties. That is a tell, and I think it is a tell about Washington's injuries rather than a considered opinion on Seattle's secondary. Money weighed Cosmi and Okonkwo heavier than Love and Okada.

Maybe that is right. A Commanders offense down a guard and a tight end may simply not have the juice to punish anybody deep. But my number has this game closer to a coin flip on total scoring than a 40 does, and the dog at +7.5 is getting paid through both key numbers on a day the favorite's back end is held together with tape.

So: I like Washington plus the points more than I like anything else on this game, and I like the Over more than the board does. Neither is a play yet. I want to see whether 7.5 holds into Sunday morning or whether this keeps climbing, because a favorite that keeps getting bet through 7 with a gutted secondary is either a market that knows something I do not, or a number that overcorrected on a quarterback headline. Mind the gap like it owes you money.

What I'm watching

Whether the Seahawks release a safety off the practice squad or shuffle a corner back there, because that tells me how they actually plan to cover the deep third. And whether the total ticks back toward 41.5. If the Under money keeps coming with both safeties out, the market is telling me Washington's offense is in worse shape than the injury report reads.
