Tuesday in the WNBA, and I will give you the honest version first: when I hunt for WNBA best bets today, the board hands me a lean and nothing else. Chicago is priced at -225 to win in Connecticut. My number says -225. That is not an edge, that is a mirror.

So this is a radar column, not a slate. Here is what is actually on it.

What I'm watching on the WNBA slate today

  1. Chicago Sky at Connecticut Sun, 7:00 ET. The one game where my number and the market are in the same room. -225 implies right around 69 percent, and 69 percent is exactly where I have it. What turns it into a play: a move toward -200 or shorter without news I can verify, or a total that drifts far enough from my line to make the side worth revisiting through the total instead.
  1. Connecticut hosting on back-to-back nights. The Sun take Chicago tonight and Golden State tomorrow at 7:10. Home back-to-backs are a quieter grind than the road version, but the minutes bill still comes due in the second one. What turns it into a play: how deep the Sun bench goes tonight. If the starters get a long night, tomorrow's number is where I want to be.
  1. Washington at Phoenix, 10:00 ET. East coast body clock, west coast tip, latest window on the card. I do not want to overbuild that into a system, because the schedule alone is not an edge, but it is the kind of spot where a stale total sometimes lags. What turns it into a play: a total that sits a full point or more off my number.
  1. Portland at Dallas, 8:00 ET. Expansion road teams are where markets guess the loudest, and guessing loud is how soft lines get made. I want a price here, not a narrative. What turns it into a play: anything that prices Portland like a formality when I do not have them as one.
  1. Toronto at Seattle, Wednesday, 10:00 ET. Parked on the horizon. I mention it because tomorrow's numbers get made off tonight's minutes, and that is a tell worth reading a day early.

The one I lean on

Chicago. And I want to be precise about the word: lean. I think the Sky are the better side tonight and I think -225 is an honest rendering of that. Fair is fair. There is nothing to buy in a number that matches my own, and paying -225 for the privilege of agreeing with the market is how bankrolls die of boredom.

So nothing cleared my number this morning. Small edges over and over is the business. Zero edges is a Tuesday.

checked the almanac: the league tipped its first season in 1997 with eight teams, and tonight there are expansion clubs on the card in two different time zones. that is a good problem to have.

What I'm watching next: Connecticut's rotation minutes tonight, because they set tomorrow's Golden State price, and the Phoenix total in the late window. If either one moves off my number, you know where to find me. Bet what you would shrug off losing, 21+ where legal.
