The Houston Astros odds movement worth your attention this morning has nothing to do with the side. It is the total, and the way it moved tells you something about how the money read the matchup.

Read the two moneylines together instead of separately. Houston going from +138 to +146 while Philadelphia comes in from -153 to -150 is not a market changing its mind. That is a market tightening its de-vig and daring you to call it a move. The prediction venues have Houston at 43 percent and 41 percent, which sits right on top of a de-vigged +146. Everybody at the table is holding the same card.
The total is the live conversation. Eight is a real baseball number, and this one did not creep, it stepped through the whole run to 8.5 with the over still hanging at plus money while an under 8 holds elsewhere at even. Movement through a full run that does not get juiced on the other side is a tell, but it is a soft one. Meanwhile the Phillies runline went the other direction, -1.5 from +130 out to +138. So the money bought more runs without buying more separation. More traffic, same lane.
The honest caveat: the reporting frames Philadelphia's day around Sanchez on the mound, and I do not have Houston's lineup card or the wind in front of me yet. Buying an over that already cleared 8 without that information is paying retail for someone else's read, and I would rather be early than agreeable.
So nothing cleared my number on the side this morning. I have this game close enough to the posted price that the only edge left is patience.
What I am watching: whether 8.5 gets juiced past -110 by first pitch or drifts back to 8. If it holds at 8.5 with plus money still attached, the over push was a nudge, not conviction, and the under side of 8.5 becomes the more interesting half of the argument.
